(August 29, 2006) - Fordham University head football coach Tom Masella announced that seniors Micah Clukey, Carl Garritano, James Prydatko and Marcus Taylor will serve as 2006 team captains.
Clukey, the starting placekicker for the past three years, was a First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2004 and 2005 and Second Team All-League and Rookie of the Year in 2003. Last fall, he connected on seven of his eleven field goal attempts and on all 18 of his PATs. The seven field goals was third best among all Patriot League kickers last fall while he was the lone league kicker to connect on all of his PATs.
Over his career, Clukey has booted 28 field goals in 37 attempts while also converting 99 of his 104 PATs. The 99 career extra points made is a school record, surpassing Steve Troutman??s record of 87 set from 1987-90 while the 28 career field goals is second best all-time at Fordham, 13 behind Brian Colsant??s school record of 41.
Garritano, a two-year starter in the defensive backfield, will serve as a captain despite the fact that he will miss the 2006 season with an injury suffered in the spring. Last year, he was second on the squad with 82 total tackles, 40 solo, while having three tackles for a loss. Garritano also intercepted a pass, deflected three others and recovered three fumbles. On special teams, he returned four punts for 41 yards (10.2 yards/return).
Over his three-year career, Garritano has recorded 146 tackles, 82 solo, and has nine tackles for a loss, two interceptions and four pass deflections.
Prydatko earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors last year as the starting tailback when he led all Fordham rushers with 1,022 yards on 233 carries with five touchdowns, becoming just the second Fordham player on the NCAA I-AA level, and fifth overall, to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing mark. He also caught 14 passes for 111 yards on the year while returning eight punts for 25 yards and eight kickoffs for 150 yards (18.8 yards/return). Prydatko was ranked second in the Patriot League in rushing yards/game (92.9), 31st in the NCAA I-AA, and overall rushing yards while ranking fifth in all-purpose yards (118.9/game).
Over his career, Prydatko has gained 1,528 rushing yards on 333 carries with ten touchdowns.
Taylor, who also served as a team captain in 2005, led the Rams with 120 tackles last fall, 69 solo. Included in the 120 tackles were six tackles for a loss and one sack. The linebacker also intercepted two passes and forced three fumbles. He was ranked second in the Patriot League in tackles (10.9/game) and third in fumbles forced (0.27/game).
Over his career, Taylor recorded 166 total tackles, including 7.5 for a loss and three sacks while intercepting three passes.
