FORDHAM??S MICAH CLUKEY NAMED PATRIOT LEAGUE PRESEASON SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER OF THE YEAR

(August 1, 2006) ?C Fordham University senior placekicker Micah Clukey (St. Augustine, FL/St. Augustine) was named Patriot League Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year at the league??s annual media day today. Additionally, the Rams were picked to finish in fifth place in voting by the league??s coaches and Sports Information Directors. The Patriot League coaches and SIDs selected Colgate University, the defending league co-champions, to repeat, garnering eight first place votes and 68 points while Lafayette University, who shared the title with Colgate last year, were picked to finish second with three first place votes and 61 points. Lehigh University (57) was tabbed to finish third followed by Holy Cross (35), Fordham (33), Bucknell (27) and Georgetown (13). Clukey, who was also named First Team All-Patriot League in 2004 and Second Team All-League and Rookie of the Year in 2003, connected on seven of his eleven field goal attempts in 2005 and on all 18 of his PATs. The seven field goals is third best among all Patriot League kickers last fall while he was the lone league kicker to connect on all of his PATs. Over his career, Clukey has now booted 28 field goals in 37 attempts while also converting 99 of his 104 PATs. The 99 career extra points made is a school record, surpassing Steve Troutman??s record of 87 set from 1987-90 while the 28 career field goals is second best all-time at Fordham, 13 behind Brian Colsant??s school record of 41. Colgate players received the other two Preseason Player of the Year awards as sophomore running back and 2005 Rookie of the Year Jordan Scott was named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and senior Geoff Bean was tabbed as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Rams will report for summer camp on Sunday, August 6th and, after a day of meetings and one of testing, the squad will have their first full practice on Wednesday, August 9th at 2:00 p.m.
