FORDHAM HIRES JOE CHOJNACKI AS ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH

(June 30, 2006) - Fordham Volleyball Coach Pete Volkert announced the hiring of former Adelphi Head Coach Joe Chojnacki as assistant volleyball coach today. Chojnacki joins the Fordham coaching staff after three seasons as head coach at Adelphi, where he posted a 41-48 record. After going 8-17 in 2003, Chojnacki guided the Panthers to a record-setting 20-14 record and the squad's first-ever post-season appearance in his second year. The Panthers posted their first 20-win season, garnered their first regional ranking, and were runners-up in the ECAC Division II Tournament in 2004. Chojnacki was the fifth head coach in Adelphi volleyball history. After a three-year stint as an assistant coach for the Panthers, he served as an interim head coach from November 2002 until his promotion. In his three years as an assistant he helped the Panthers to a 37-37 record including an 18-17 overall record (.514) in 2002. In addition to college coaching, he also worked volleyball camps at Lutheran High School and at Hofstra University's for advanced skills. Prior to Adelphi, Chojnacki coached club volleyball with the New York based Big Apple Creole team for two years, while also serving as an assistant for men's varsity volleyball at Kellenberg Memorial High School, which earned two league Championship titles. At Kellenberg, he also worked as assistant volleyball coach for women's varsity and junior varsity volleyball for two years, which won a league championship as well. Prior to Kellenberg he was a student assistant for women's volleyball at the University of Scranton. He also competed in club volleyball for four years, with three spent as a player/coach. Joe has instructed at the Kellenberg Summer Volleyball Camp every year since 1993 and has also worked Bob Bertucci Regional Clinics in 2000 and 2001. Chojnacki attended the University of Scranton and received a B.S. in communications (??97) and a minor in coaching. He is currently pursing a master's in sport administration at Adelphi. He also works as a traffic reporter for the Metro Traffic & Weather Channel and serves his community as a volunteer firefighter.
