(November 19, 2005) ?C Fordham University played host to the 2005 ECAC/IC4A Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park, as Duke University won the IC4A Championship, while Cornell took the ECAC Championship. In the university division, Army took first in the IC4A race, while New Hampshire won ECAC title.
The day opened with the men??s five mile Coaches race, as UMass?? Paul Noone won the race in a time of 26:30. The top five was rounded out by Bryce Wilk from William & Mary (26:36), David Groff form William & Mary (26:56), Bill Ceriello from La Salle (27:13), and Stephen Knox from La Salle (27:24). Justin Kopunek and Mike DeLorenzo were the lone Fordham competitors finishing 19th (28:23) and 37th (30:42) overall, respectively.
The second race was the women??s 5K Coaches race, where La Salle??s Elizabeth Geiger took the crown in a time of 18:46. The next three finishers were all from Cornell, as Angela Kudla (19:09), Robyn Ellerbrock (19:17), and Shannon Crane (19:23) finished second through fourth, while Columbia??s Anja Kreiger-Redwood was fifth (19:31). Kim Daly and LisaMarie Bensman were the lone Fordham competitors, placing 34th (23:36) and 40th (24:55) overall, respectively.
The third race of the day was the IC4A Championship race, where Duke took the team title with a score of 98, followed closely by Cornell in second (112 points), and Notre Dame (127). St. Francis University??s Ryan Sheehan won the five-mile individual title in a time of 24:58.9, followed by James Madison??s C.W. Moran in second (25:01.6), Notre Dame??s A.J. Andrassey and Jake Watson in third (25:12.7) and fourth (25:13.6), and Duke??s Keith Krieger in fifth (25:14.0).
The ECAC Championships race followed, as Cornell won the team title with a score of 76 points, with Maryland in second (95), and La Salle in third (109). Yale??s Katherine McKinstry won the 5K individual title in a time of 17:47.5, while Iona??s Salome Kosgei was second in 18:00.2. The top five was rounded out by James Madison??s Nelly Anderson (3rd ?C 18:01.7), Duke??s Maddie McKeever (4th ?C 18:05.5), and Cornell??s Nyam Kagwima (5th ?C 18:07.9).
The fifth race was the IC4A University Championship, where Army took top honors with a score of 47. Marist placed second with 98 points, with Brown in third (136) and New Hampshire in fourth (160). Manhattan??s Tyler Raymond won the five-mile individual honor, taking first in 25:24.6, followed by Marist??s Girma Segni (25:41.8) and Army??s Faraz Bala (25:45.6). Host Fordham, who was without the services of top runner Matt Flynn due to injury, placed eighth out of the 22 school competing, led by sophomore Tom Finnerty, who placed 29th overall in 26:45.1, while junior Chris McCutchan was 30th in 26:46.7. Also competing for Fordham were senior Jeremy Mosher (56th ?C 27:21.3), senior Jose Benitez (65th ?C 27:29.6), sophomore Steve D??Ambrosio (83rd ?C 27:42.7), and freshman Tom Papain (86th ?C 27:45.1).
The final race on Saturday was the ECAC University. New Hampshire won this title with a score of 76 points, followed by Binghamton (137), Sacred Heart (140), and Army (160). Leading the way for New Hampshire was Catherine Parker, who took the 5K individual title in 18:10.5, followed by Loyola??s Caitlin Dunne in second (18:14.6) and Stony Brook??s Dana Hastie in third (18:21.2). Host Fordham placed ninth out of 22 teams, led by freshman Jackie Prevete, who placed 10th overall in 18:44.4, the fastest time for any Fordham women??s runner over the Van Cortlandt Park course in over 10 years. Senior Tracey LaFrano placed 34th overall in 19:40.8 with freshman Brigid Moriarty right behind her in 46th in 19:53.0. Also competing for the Rams were senior Stephanie Luther in 50th (20:03.2), junior Linda Michlik in 96th (20:58.7), and Marisa Kelly in 106th (21:29.4).
