(March 27, 2006) ?C Fordham University student-athletes John Stoneburner (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) and Katie Greiner (Cincinnati, OH/Ursuline Academy) were recently recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments by being named to the 2005-06 Atlantic 10 Men??s and Women??s Academic All-Conference teams.
Of the 22 sports sponsored by the Atlantic 10, seven are winter sports: men??s and women??s basketball, women??s gymnastics, men??s and women??s swimming & diving, and men??s and women??s indoor track & field. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.00 and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team. Voting is conducted by the Atlantic 10 Conference??s sports information directors. The number of players selected to a team reflects the standard-sized team in that sport.
Stoneburner, a Psychology major who earns his second straight Academic All-Atlantic 10 honor, earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second in the 400 IM at the Atlantic 10 Championships in February. He also placed third in the 200 fly and fifth in the 200 IM at A-10 championships and was a member of the 400 medley relay team that placed third.
On the year, Stoneburner recorded Fordham??s fastest 200 and 500 free times as well as the fastest 200 fly and 200 and 400 IM times.
Last year, Stoneburner won two gold medals at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championships, winning the 200 IM and 400 IM titles to earn First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. He became the second Fordham male to win two events at the Atlantic 10 Championships, joining Keanan Faruq who won the 100 and 200 backstroke in 2001. He was also part of four Fordham relay teams at the championships, competing with the 400 and 800 freestyle relays as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays.
Greiner, an Economics major who earns her third straight Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference selection, placed fifth in the 500 free, sixth in the 200 free and ninth in the 200 fly at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships last month.
On the year, Greiner recorded Fordham??s fastest 200 and 500 free times this year as well as the fastest 200 fly time.
Last year, Greiner earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second in the 500 freestyle at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championships.
