(May 10, 2006) ?C Nine members of the Fordham University softball team received 2006 All-Atlantic 10 honors in voting conducted among the Conference??s head coaches it was announced by the league.
Earning First Team honors were senior outfielder Katie Davis (Hanover, PA/South Western), junior outfielder Krystle Henry (Maywood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and freshman second baseman Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) while senior designated player Lisa Busciacco (Sewell, NJ/Bishop Eustace), junior pitcher Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs), sophomore shortstop Laura Klaiber (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), sophomore third baseman Allison Twarowski (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and sophomore catcher Allison Storc (Boynton Beach, FL/Santaluces) all were named to the Second Team and junior first baseman Megan Hansen (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol) was named Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Additionally, Capardi was named to the All-Rookie Team while Busciacco and Klaiber were also named to the All-Academic Team.
Davis, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, capped an outstanding career at Fordham, hitting .326 (56-172) on the year with 15 doubles, eight home runs, 35 RBI and 33 runs scored while in conference games she hit .397 (23-58) with eight doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI. She leads the team in doubles and ranks second in slugging percentage (.552) as well as third in batting average and fourth in home runs while earning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors once this spring.
Over her career, Davis set Fordham career marks for home runs (35), RBI (113), slugging percentage (.628) and total bases (321) while currently ranking second in hits (176) and doubles (38) and third in runs (113) and batting average (.344). She also holds the school single season record for hits (62), home runs (14), total bases (114) and slugging percentage (.699).
Henry, who has patrolled centerfield for the Rams the past two years after playing shortstop as a freshman, is hitting a team-best .397 (73-184) on the year, fourth in the conference, with 11 doubles, three triples and 23 RBI along with a team-high 16 stolen bases in 19 attempts. In conference games, she hit an even .400 (24-60) with three doubles and eight RBI. Henry leads the team with 73 hits, 53 runs scored and with a .493 on-base percentage, which are also all tops in the conference, and she has recorded ten outfield assists. Henry set school single-season records for hits (73) and runs scored this spring and broke the career stolen bases and runs scored records as well.
Over the past three years, Henry has set Fordham career records for walks (82), stolen bases (53) and runs scored (120) while ranking second on the all-time list in sacrifice hits (33) and third in hits (156).
Capardi, who made a splash in her rookie campaign, is hitting .317 (38-12) on the year with four doubles, two triples, one home run, 12 RBI and 27 runs scored while in conference play she batted .364 (20-55) with two doubles, two triples and eight RBI. The lone freshman starter for the Rams was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week once in 2006.
Busciacco, a team co-captain, is hitting at a .279 (46-165) clip on the year with ten doubles, ten home runs, 36 RBI and 16 runs scored. She is tied for the team lead with the ten home runs while posting career-highs in both home runs and RBI. Busciacco, who was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week once this spring, is also ranked third on the team in slugging percentage (.521) and fourth in doubles and RBI.
Over her career, Busciacco is second all-time at Fordham in walks (62), third in RBI (91) and fourth in home runs (13), doubles (31) and games played (193).
Kinney, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year, has compiled a 20-12 record so far in 2006, with a 2.60 ERA and four shutouts, leading the Rams in all pitching categories. In a team-high 193.2 innings of work, she has struck out 150 batters while holding opponents to a .224 batting average. In league play, Kinney, who won 20 games for the second straight year, was 9-2 with a 2.61 ERA and she was twice named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week.
Over her three-year career at Fordham, Kinney has set school marks for wins (60), complete games (58), strikeouts (492), shutouts (13) and saves (11) while also holding single season marks for wins (24), strikeouts (182) and ERA (1.34).
Klaiber, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, is hitting .311 (51-164) on the year with 11 doubles, two triples, ten home runs, 45 RBI and 40 runs scored while in league play she hit a sizzling .396 (21-53) with five doubles, one triple, four home runs and 18 RBI. She is tied for the team lead in home runs and RBI and has a team-best .585 slugging percentage while ranking second on the squad in runs, doubles and on-base percentage and earning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors once in 2006.
Over the past two years, Klaiber has recorded 101 RBI, becoming just the second Ram to drive in over 100 runs, while hitting 16 home runs to tie for second on the all-time list and ranking third in career slugging percentage (.570). She also set the Fordham single season RBI record with 56 in 2005.
Twarowski, a 2005 All-Atlantic 10 selection at third base, is batting .301 (55-183) on the year with seven doubles, ten home runs, 45 RBI and 40 runs scored. She is tied for the team lead in home runs and RBI while posting a .503 slugging percentage to go with five stolen bases.
In two years at Fordham, Twarowski already ranks in a tie for second on the all-time home run list with 16 while sitting fourth on the career RBI list with 76.
Storc, who has started 50 games behind the plate for the Rams in 2006, has a .345 average (49-142) with eight doubles, five home runs, 24 RBI and 29 runs scored while in conference play she hit a scorching .426 (23-54) with four doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI. She is ranked second on the team in hitting and fourth in slugging percentage (.507).
Hansen, a transfer from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, is hitting .277 (49-177) in her first year with the Rams with four doubles, five home runs, 38 RBI and 30 runs scored. She is third on the team in RBI and leads the team with 12 multiple-RBI games.
