KIRA ORR NAMED ASSISTANT WOMEN??S BASKETBALL COACH AT FORDHAM UNIVERSITY

(June 20, 2006) ?C Kira Orr, who served as an assistant coach at Fordham University for the past two years, will remain at Rose Hill as an assistant coach on the staff of new head women??s basketball coach Cathy Andruzzi it was announced today. Orr, who played professionally following her collegiate career at Duke University, arrived at Fordham after spending five years at her alma mater, The Bullis School, in Potomac, MD. She served the school in a variety of fashions: Assistant Athletic Director, Physical Education teacher, Head Girls Varsity Softball Coach and Girls Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach. In 2003, Orr took over as Head Coach of the Girls Varsity Basketball Program. She guided her team to a 26-3 record, winning both the regular season and tournament championships of the Independent School League AA. Orr had an outstanding playing career at Duke University, where she was a three-year starter for the Blue Devils. An All-ACC selection, she was named to the ACC All-Tournament team three times (1995-97), and ranks among the Duke career leaders in scoring (7th), assists (3rd), steals (6th), and three-point field goals (4th). Among the accomplishments that Orr still holds at Duke is the single season mark for assists, as she dished out 170 in the 1995-96 season. During her Duke years, Orr also played for USA Basketball. She played on both the 1994 and 1995 U.S. Olympic Festival gold medal teams, and the USA R. Williams Jones Cup Team that won a silver medal in international competition in Taiwan. Following her illustrious career at Duke, Orr was drafted by the Seattle Reign of the ABL, becoming the first female Duke basketball player to be drafted by a professional league. Orr, a 1997 graduate of Duke University, earned a B.A. in Sociology as well as a Marketing and Management Certificate.
