CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT THE 2005 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

(October 29, 2005) ?C The La Salle women's team defended its crown while Duquesne captured its first-ever men's title on Saturday at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships, held at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, PA. Fordham ended the day in ninth place out of 14 team on the men??s side, while taking 10th out of 14 on the women??s side. The Rams just missed having two All-Atlantic 10 performers by 1.5 seconds, as a runner must finish in the top 15 to garner All-Conference honors. Sophomore Matthew Flynn made the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team by placing 10th overall in a time of 25:08.6, becoming Fordham??s first Cross Country All-Conference selection since joining the Atlantic 10 in 1995. Freshman Jacqueline Prevete just finished outside the top 15 in 16th place, clocking in at 18:46.0. Besides Flynn, the men??s team had a strong showing over the 5-mile course, as sophomore Matt Lowenthal placed 28th in 25:57.5, while sophomore Tom Finnerty took 34th in 26:11.3. Senior Jose Benitez and junior Chris McCutchan were the other two scorers for Fordham, placing 60th (26:52.6) and 66th (27:05.6), respectively. Also competing for the Rams, freshman Tom Papain placed 68th (27:08.5), senior Jeremy Mosher took 69th (27:09.4), and sophomore Steve D'Ambrosio was 90th (27:21.9). Besides Prevete, the women??s team also had a good showing over the 5K race, as freshman Brigid Moriarty placed 37th in 19:29.2, while senior Tracey LaFrano was 41st in 19:33.2. Sophomore Melissa Salerno and senior Stephanie Luther also scored for the Rams, placing 85th (20:27.7) and 89th (20:36.9). Also competing for Fordham, freshman Pam O??Sullivan was 96th (20:53.6), senior Marisa Kelly was 101st (21:09.1), junior Danica Dupuy was 103rd (21:20.0), and Linda Michlik was 107th (21:45.2).
