(February 18, 2006) ?C The Fordham University men??s women??s indoor track and field team competed at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships held at the University of Rhode Island and much like last year, Kerstin Greene stole the show, winning the triple jump with a school record leap as well as scoring in three other events to lead the Rams to a sixth place team finish of eleven teams.
Greene earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by winning the triple jump with a school-record jump of 39?? 3??, surpassing her own school mark of 38?? 8.75?? which she set on February 5th while winning the event at the Metropolitan Championships. The 39?? 3?? jump also improves her qualifying mark for the ECAC Championships.
Green also scored the long jump, taking third with a school-record jump of 18?? 6.5??, surpassing her own school record of 18' 1.75" set at the Metropolitan Championships. She also scored in the high jump, finishing third with a jump of 5?? 5?? and the 55m hurdles, placing fifth in a time of 8.51 seconds.
On the men??s side, freshman Matt DiBuono won the weight throw with a toss of 58?? 5.5?? to garner First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. DiBuono was also named the Atlantic 10's Most Outstanding Rookie for the men.
Also earning All-Atlantic 10 honors for the women was senior Maureen Zivic, who placed second in the 500 meters, just 0.01 seconds behind the winner, to garner Second Team honors. On the men??s side, Brandon Ryan and Matt Lowenthal earned Second Team All-League honors by placing second in the 500 meters (1:07.17) and 1000 meters (2:32.40), respectively. The men??s 4x800 meter relay team of Clifton Hilario, Lowenthal, Stephen D??Ambrosio and Jonathan Martins also took home Second Team honors with a second place finish (7:52.99).
Charlotte won the women??s team title with 172 points followed by La Salle (92), Saint Joseph??s (83), Richmond (79), Rhode Island (75), Fordham (73), Dayton (46), Duquesne (41.5), Massachusetts (38), Temple (31.5) and Xavier (10).
Charlotte also won the men??s competition with 180 points followed by Rhode Island (146), La Salle (111), Saint Joseph??s (87), Massachusetts (83), Fordham (64), Richmond (36), Temple (24) and Xavier (7).
Also scoring for the women were Jeana Fletcher and Monica Rewaiko, who tied for fourth in the high jump (5??3??); Arianna Washington, who finished fourth in the weight throw (31?? 11.5??); Jacqueline Prevete, who took fifth in the 5000m (17:34.54) and eighth in the 3000m (10:21.56); Diana Nordquist, who was fifth in the 55m hurdles (8.65); Kristina Knapp, who placed fifth in the 500m (1:17.87); Leigh Waterbury, who was eighth in the weight throw (41?? 5.25??); and Danica Dupuy, who finished eighth in the 800m (2:20.02).
In the relays, the 4x800 team of Kathleen Reilly, Stephanie Luther, Kristin Nelson and Melissa Salerno placed third in a time of 9:26.43 while the 4x400 team of Nordquist, Zivic, Knapp and Dupuy placed fifth (3:56.01) and the distance medley team of Lindsay Dike, Rewaiko, Candice Drinkwater and Linda Michlik was eighth (12:57.32).
Also scoring on the men??s side for Fordham were Brian Mulkeen, who finished fourth in the weight throw (50?? 6.75??); Aaron DeGraffe, who was fifth in the triple jump (46?? 11??) and eighth in the 55m hurdles (7.91); Matt Spaccarelli, who was fifth in the pole vault (13?? 9.5??); Dan Tucker, who placed sixth in the high jump (6?? 3.25??); Hilario, who finished seventh in the 500m (1:07.66); and Vita Scalia, who was eighth in the weight throw.
In men??s relays, the 4x400 team of Tucker, Spaccarelli, Ryan and Michael Rozea placed fourth (3:23.78) as did the distance medley relay team of Rozea, Michael Kearney, Nicholas Kroll and Thomas Finnerty.
