The Fordham University men??s and women??s swim squad closed out the 2005-06 season at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Men??s and Women??s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y. The men??s team finished in a tie for fifth of nine teams while the women took seventh of ten teams.
On the first day, the women??s 800 freestyle relay team of Kristin Colton, Ashley Ukleja, Anne Conroy, and Katie Greiner, finished sixth in 7:44.32, while the team of Colton, Amanda Irving, Rebecca Mobley, and Brittany Nuess took seventh in the 200 medley relay in 1:48.66.
On the men??s side on day one, the 200 medley relay team, comprised of John Kennedy, Niko Felix, Chris Baracewicz, and Rich Woyma, placed fifth in 1:34.34, while the 800 freestyle relay, made up of John Stoneburner, Ben Burge, Baracewicz, and Rob Langford, placed ninth in 7:00.51.
The only individual event was the men??s one-meter dive, as Fordham??s Donnie Callara took third overall with a score of 482.90.
On day two five Fordham women scored in the 500 freestyle, led by Greiner, who took fifth in 5:00.17. Ashley Ukleja followed in sixth for Fordham in 5:02.99, while her sister, Alexandria was 12th overall in 5:07.05. Anne Conroy (5:10.21) and Tara McWilliams (5:12.03) completed the scoring in 13th and 14th place, respectively.
Brittany Nuess won the ??B?? final of the 200 IM, scoring ninth overall in a time of 2:07.95. Nuess also helped the 200 freestyle relay team to a sixth place finish in 1:39.43, along with teammates Sarah Connell, Amanda Irving, and Lisa Hansen.
In men??s action, John Stoneburner fell short of defending his 200 IM title, taking fifth overall in 1:53.20, while Rich Woyma won the ??B?? final of the 50 freestyle, scoring ninth overall in 21.32 seconds.
In relay action, Woyma, John Kennedy, Burge, and Stoneburner competed in the 200 freestyle relay, taking fifth overall in 1:25.18.
Day three saw the first of the first Fordham swimmers earn All-Conference honors as the Rams had two swimmers earn Second Team All-Conference honors with Stoneburner taking second in the 400 IM for the men in a time of 4:02.87 and Colton placing second in the 100 backstroke for the women in a time of 57.67.
Also scoring for the men were Callara, who placed third on the three meter board; Niko Felix, who was fourth in the 100 breaststroke; Woyma, who finished fourth in the 100 butterfly; Sean Terry, who placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke; Kennedy, who took sixth in the 100 backstroke; Chris Baracewicz, who finished seventh in the 100 butterfly; Shaun Porter, who placed 13th in the 400 IM; Robert Langford, who took 14th in the 400 IM and in the 100 breaststroke; Ben Marzolf, who finished 15th in the 400 IM and 16th in the 100 backstroke; and Anthony Giovanone, who was 16th on the three meter board.
In men??s relay action, the 400 medley relay team of Kennedy, Felix, Woyma and Stoneburner took third in a time of 3:26.22.
Also scoring for the women were Greiner, who was sixth in the 200 free; Alexandra Ukleja, who finished ninth in the 400 IM; Nuess, who placed tenth in the 100 fly, Tara McWilliams, who finished 12th in the 200 free; and Amanda Irving, who took 15th in the 100 breaststroke.
In women??s relay action, the Fordham 400 medley relay team of Colton, Irving, Greiner and Nuess finished sixth.
The teams wrapped up the championships on the fourth day with Stoneburner and Niko Felix each finishing third in an event. Stoneburner took third in the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:52.44 while Felix placed third in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:07.25.
Other men who scored for the Rams included Sean Terry, who placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.76); Porter, who took eighth in the 200 butterfly (1:54.15); Kennedy, who finished tenth in the 200 backstroke (1:53.69); Baracewicz, who was 12th in the 200 butterfly (1:56.40); Robert Passaro, who placed 15th in the 1650 freestyle (16:57.26); and Marzolf, who finished 16th in the 200 backstroke (1:58.54).
In men??s relays, the 400 freestyle relay team of Woyma, Kennedy, Benjamin Burge, and Stoneburner finished seventh in a time of 3:08.94.
For the women, the 1650 freestyle was the big event with the Rams taking third through fifth in the race. Ashley Ukleja took third in a time of 17:08.34 followed by teammate Conroy, who was fourth in 17:21.42 and Alexandra Ukleja, who placed fifth in 17:25.00.
Also scoring for the women were Colton, who took third in the 200 backstroke (2:05.53); Greiner, who finished ninth in the 200 fly (2:08.62); Nuess, who was ninth in the 100 free (53.39); McWilliams, who placed 12th in the 200 backstroke (2:09.63); Irving, who finished 15th in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.38); and Marisa Colangelo, who took 16th on the three meter board.
In women??s relay action, the 400 freestyle relay team of Colton, McWilliams, Greiner and Nuess placed sixth (3:33.66).
