MEN??S AND WOMEN??S TRACK & FIELD TAKE SIXTH AT 2006 ATLANTIC 10 OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

(May 7, 2006) ?C The Fordham University men??s and women??s track and field squads wrapped up competition at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships held at the Irwin Belk Center today with both teams placing sixth. The women took sixth of an 11 team field, placing two points ahead of La Salle, while the men were sixth of ten teams. Leading the women on day two was Maureen Zivic, who won the 800m in a time of 2:10.52 to earn First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Also earning All-Conference honors on day two was Kerstin Greene, who placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 38?? 9?? to earn Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Greene, who also earned Second Team honors on day one with a second place showing in the long jump, also scored in the 100m hurdles on day two, placing fourth (14.85). Diana Nordquist also garnered Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second in the 400m hurdles in a season-best time of 1:03.16. Nordquist also scored in the 100m hurdles on day two, placing eighth (15.80). Also scoring for the women on day two were Candice Drinkwater, Monica Rewiako and Jeana Fletcher, who placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the heptathlon. In heptathlon events on day two, Drinkwater placed fourth in the 800m (2:39.54) and seventh in both the long jump (13?? 10.5??) and javelin (69?? 10??) while Rewiako was fourth in the javelin (74?? 9??), sixth in the long jump (13?? 11.75??) and seventh in the 800m (2:44.98). Fletcher was third in the 800m (2:36.15), eighth in the javelin (68?? 2??) and tenth in the long jump (13?? 5??). In women??s relays on day two, the 4x400 team placed fourth while the 4x100 finished ninth. Matthew Spaccarelli paced the men on day two, placing second in the decathlon to earn Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the second straight year with a score of 5788. On the second day, Spaccarelli took second in the 1500m (4:52.75), the pole vault (12?? 7.5??) and the discus (102?? 10??) while taking third in the 110m hurdles (17.48) and fourth in the javelin (137?? 1??). Scoring in two events on the second day for the men were Michael Carroll, who took fourth in the 110m in a time of 14.98 and fifth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 55.15, both Fordham season-bests, while Aaron DeGraffe placed seventh in the triple jump (44?? 8.25??) while also placing eighth in both the 110m hurdles (15.90) and the 400m hurdles (56.95). Also scoring for the men on day two were Michael Kearney, who placed fifth in the 400m in a season-best time of 49.51, and Michael Kirwan, who was sixth in the 400m (49.62). In men??s relays, the 4x400 squad took third in a time of 3:20.06.
