MEN??S GOLF FINISHES TENTH AT 2006 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

(May 7, 2006) ?C Brian McClure shot a final day round of 70 to bring his three-day total to 216 to tie for 15th overall at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships at the Orange County National Golf Center. McClure, who shot a career-best 68 on the first day to tie for the overall lead, followed that with a 78 on day two and the 70 today for his 216 total, even par for the course and ten strokes behind co-champs, Xavier??s John Streibich and Jason Kokrak. McClure tied with Dayton??s Rob Chappell, Rhode Island??s Ben Spitz and Saint Joseph??s Phil Arouca for 15th. Charlotte held off a third-round surge from Xavier to claim the 2006 Atlantic 10 Men??s Golf Championship. As a team, the 49ers shot a 12-under par 276 on the par 72, 6,837-yard Panther Lake course. Xavier, on the other hand, was 15-under for the final round, led by junior John Streibich (St. Thomas, VI) and his tournament-low score of 66. The 49ers won the team title by three strokes over Xavier with their 54-hole total of 837. Rhode Island placed third with an 857, followed by Richmond in fourth place with an 859 and George Washington in fifth place with an 860. St. Bonaventure (865), Saint Joseph??s (875), Dayton (885), Saint Louis (890), Fordham (909), Temple (913), Duquesne (916), and La Salle (964) rounded out the field. Other Fordham golfers competing at the championship included Michael Finocchi, who shot a 73 on the final day for a three-day total of 224, tying him for 39th, along with Martin Maguire, who carded a 73 on day three to bring his score to 225 for the championship, tying him for 42nd. Matt Wholey turned in a 79 on the final 18 holes for a 245 score in the tournament, good for 60th overall, while Joseph Neydon recorded an 80 today for a three-day total of 251, good for 65th overall.
