WOMEN??S SOCCER ANNOUNCES RECRUITING CLASS FOR 2006 SEASON

(June 27, 2006) ?C Fordham Women??s Soccer coach Ness Selmani announced the incoming class for the 2006 Fordham Women??s Soccer team today. The newest Fordham Rams are Lauren Bustos (Altadena, CA/Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy), Jen Byer (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional), Courtney Fedge (Bellport, NY/Bellport), Mary Hennessy (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), Brittany Hogan (Smithfield, RI/Bishop Feehan), and Emma Jenks-Daly (Weston, MA/Weston). Bustos, a defender/midfielder from Altadena, CA, was a two-time All-CIF selection and a two-time Area High School Soccer Player of the Year. She was twice named to the LA Times All-Star First Team, and was selected to the LA Daily News All-Area First Team. A two-time Mission League Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player, she was named Co-MVP of the Mission League in 2005 and was a four-time All-League pick. Bustos was a 2002 ODP Cal-South State Select team member, and currently plays club soccer for So Cal United, which finished as the Cal South National Cup Semi-finalist, while winning the 2006 Girls U19 Premier League Championship. Her team is currently ranked seventh nationally, while claiming multiple tournament championship, including the Nike Invitational (2005 and 2006), the Slammers FC Tournament, and the NHB Tournament (2004 and 2006). On top of her athletic accomplishment, Bustos was also an All-Academic First Team selection in both soccer and track. Byer, a goalkeeper from Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, was a Second Team All-State selection, while also garnering First Team All-County and First Team All-North Jersey. A four-year starter in net, she helped Northern Highlands Regional to three Bergen County Championships and four State Sectional Finals with one of those seasons ending in a championship. Over her final two seasons, Northern Highlands Regional posted a 43-2-1 record, with Byer graduating as the team??s career leader in wins and shutouts. She has played club soccer for Arsenal World Class the past two seasons, reaching the State Cup Semi-finals in 2005. She was previously with Jersey United in 2004, where they won the Umbro International Women??s Open Plate Championship in Manchester, England. In addition to her athletic accolades, she was a four-time scholar-athlete and a four-year member of the honor roll. Fedge, a defender from Bellport, NY, was a two-year varsity captain at Bellport High School, where she was named to the All-State, All-County, All-League, and All-Conference teams. She plays club soccer for the Commack Emeralds, helping the team to four State Cup Championships. Academically, Fedge was a member of the National Senior Honor Society, the Science Honor Society, and the French Honor Society. Hennessy, a midfielder/forward from Mahopac, NY, served as team captain and was selected to the All-State team this past season. A three-time All-Section and All-League performer, she has been a member of the Eastern New York ODP State Team Pool, and plays club soccer for the Yorktown Jaguars. In addition to soccer, Hennessy also played varsity basketball and cross country at Mahopac High School. Hogan, a forward from Smithfield, RI, was selected to the Eastern Massachusetts All-State team and to the Eastern Massachusetts All-Star First Team, while being voted the best player in the EAC Conference. She finished as Bishop Feehan??s career leader with 103 points (66 goals, 37 assists), and scored a single-season record 35 goals in 2004. She was twice named an EAC All-Star and a Sun Chronicle All-Star (2004 and 2005), and in 2004, she helped the team reach the Eastern Mass Tournament South semi-finals for the first time in school history. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Hogan is a member of the National, Science, and Spanish Honor Societies, a four-time recipient of the Academic Excellence Award, and a National Merit Scholar. Jenks-Daly, a midfielder from Weston, MA, was a four-year member of the varsity soccer team, earning Dual County League All-Star honors during her junior and senior years. A team co-captain, she earned scholar-athlete recognition as a senior, while receiving the Spanish award in 2002 and the Community Service Award all four years of high school. The 2006 Fordham Women??s Soccer team will open their season on Sunday, August 27th, when they host Iona College at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
