(June 26, 2006) - Fordham University men??s basketball head coach Dereck Whittenburg announced the signing of Herb Tanner (Boston, MA/Stoneridge Prep) and Dan Landisch (Milwaukee, WI/Marquette High) to National Letters of Intent it was announced today.
Tanner, a 6-4, 165-point guard, prepped this past year at Stoneridge Prep in Semi Valley, California, averaging 14.5 ppg, making 69 three-pointers, while also dishing out 3.1 assists/game. He is one of five players from Stoneridge to sign with an NCAA Division I school this year.
During the season, he was named Third Team All-Great Southern-Showcase, averaging 17.5 ppg in the tournament, and he was also named to the All-Tournament squad at the inaugural National Elite Athletic Association (NEAA) NIT tournament.
Prior to attending Stoneridge Prep, Tanner played at Catholic Memorial High School in Boston where he was named a League All-Star by the Boston Globe. He led the Knights to the Division 2 South Sectional title in 2005.
Landisch, a 6-6, 215-pound forward, just wrapped up his career at Marquette High School, averaging 22.2 ppg, leading the team and ranking 17th in the state of Wisconsin, along with 7.0 rpg and 2.3 steals/game. He was named First Team All-Greater Metro Conference as well as honorable mention All-Area in 2005-06 by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the Most Valuable Player at the 2006 Terry Porter Classic.
Landisch also competed with the football team at Marquette, catching 40 passes for 514 yards and four touchdowns as a split end for the Hilltoppers. He was named honorable mention All-Area by the Journal-Sentinel and first team All-Greater Metro Conference at WR as a senior. Landisch was named one of the top 100 High School Football Players in the state of Wisconsin by Scout.com.
The two join Brenton Butler (Norcross, GA/Norcross), who signed during the early signing period, as newcomers to the Fordham roster.
Butler, a 6-2, 180-pound guard just completed his senior year at Norcross High School in Norcross, Georgia, averaging 16.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg and 4.5 assists/game as the guard helped the Blue Devils win the 2006 State AAAAA championship.
Butler??s father, Bobby, was a standout defensive back with the Atlanta Falcons from 1981-92 after a stellar career at Florida State where he earned All-America honors in 1980.
Fordham opens the 2006-07 season on Monday, November 13th as they participate in the Preseason NIT in Nashville, Tennessee. The Rams will face the University of Tennessee in the opening round on November 13th and then either Belmont or UNC-Wilmington in the regional consolation/championship game on November 14th. The Rams will be led into the season by fourth-year head coach Dereck Whittenburg, who returns a plethora of talent from last year??s team, including junior Bryant Dunston, a 2006 First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection.
