(June 20, 2006) ?C Former Fordham University wide receiver Javarus Dudley capped a successful first season in the Arena Football League by being named to the 2006 Arena Football League (AFL) All-Rookie Team in May. And his success on the field led to the signing of a two-year contract with the Predators today in Orlando.
??Javarus had a solid rookie season for us and continued to improve throughout the year,?? Orlando Predators head coach Jay Gruden said. ??We look forward to having him in a Predators uniform for the next two years.??
Dudley helped lead the Predators to ArenaBowl XX, the 2006 AFL Championship, in Las Vegas on June 11th. In that game, Dudley caught ten passes for a game-high 117 yards and four touchdowns but Orlando came up just short, falling 69-61 to the Chicago Rush.
Dudley had a sensational first year for the Predators. In 13 regular season games, he was second on the team in receiving with 78 receptions for 1,035 yards and 14 touchdowns. Dudley also rushed 20 times for 61 yards and three touchdowns and added 27 tackles on defense with one pass defense.
Dudley was one of two Predators to be named to the All-Rookie team, joining teammate Greg White.
??It is a well-deserved honor for both players,?? Gruden said. ??Both Javarus and Greg played major roles in our success this season and both have bright futures in front of them.??
A 2004 Fordham graduate, Dudley earned All-American honors as a senior in 2003 when he led the NCAA I-AA with 101 receptions, setting a school and Patriot League record in the process. Over his four-year career, Dudley set school and league records for most receptions (295), receiving yards (4,197) and receiving touchdowns (34) while also setting school career marks in kickoff returns (111) and kickoff return yards (2,663). He also holds the Patriot League career record for all-purpose yards with 7,121 yards.
