(June 1, 2006) - Fordham University senior Maureen Zivic (Coraopolis, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) was named First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I for Track & Field, it was announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She will now be placed on the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America? consideration.
In order to be considered for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, maintain a 3.20 GPA or better and have reached sophomore athletic or academic standing.
Zivic, who was earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors during the outdoor season, won the 800m (2:10.52) at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships to garner the First Team honors and qualify for the NCAA East Regional where she finished third in her heat and 15th overall last weekend in Greensboro, N.C. Her time of 2:09.79 was the second fastest 800m time in Fordham history. Zivic was also a member of the 4x800 relay team that placed second at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships (9:03.26) to earn Second Team All-Conference honors while the team also won the event at the 2006 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships.
Indoors, Zivic earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in the 500m, finishing second by just 0.01 seconds at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships.
Zivic graduates as the Fordham school indoor record holder in the 400 meters (56.84) and 500 meters (1:14.63) as well as being a member of the school record-setting indoor 4x800 relay team (3:53.24) as well as the outdoor 4x200 relay team (1:44.40).
The 2006 Outdoor Track & Field team MVP, Zivic received the 2006 Benedict T. Harter Award, presented annually to the College of Business Administration senior athlete who has made significant academic and athletic contributions. She also received an Athlete Academic Achievement Award, presented to Fordham senior student-athletes with outstanding athletic and academic achievement who have compiled a 3.5 GPA or better
Academically, Zivic graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. She also earned Academic All-Atlantic 10 honors for the past three years.
