JENNIFER ROUSSIL AND STACIA KROETZ NAMED CRCA NATIONAL SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

(May 22, 2006) ?C Fordham University juniors Jennifer Roussil and Stacia Kroetz were named Mid-Atlantic Region National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) it was announced on Monday. The award recognizes student-athletes with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher that competed in 75 percent of her team??s 2006 spring races. Also, the student-athletes must be upperclassmen (sophomore, junior or senior) in terms of eligibility and their head coaches must be good standing members of the CRCA. A total of 135 student-athletes from 50 different schools were honored for their efforts during the 2006 season. The Mid-Atlantic Region produced 44 selections amongst 16 different schools. Roussil, who was recently named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for the second straight year, receives her second consecutive CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Award while Kroetz is named to the list for the first time. Both rowers were recently admitted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society, and were members of the Fordham Varsity 8 this spring, helping the boat finish 12th overall at the Dad Vail championships on May 13th in Philadelphia while also placing third in the second grand final at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships. The Varsity 8 also Varsity 8 also won the Manhattan Invitational, took fifth at the Murphy Cup and fifth in the third-level final at the Knecht Cup in the spring.
