(May 16, 2006) ?C Fordham University seniors Maureen Zivic (Coraopolis, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) and Diana Nordquist (North Bellmore, NY/Kellenberg) were recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments by being named 2006 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team for track and field.
Zivic, a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing who served as an indoor/outdoor track team captain the past two years, won the 800m at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships to garner First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors and qualify for the NCAA East Regional Championships to be held this weekend in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was also a member of the 4x800 relay team that placed second at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships to earn Second Team All-Conference honors and also placed second in the 800m at the 2006 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships.
Zivic, who also received Academic All-Atlantic 10 honors for both the indoor season and outdoor seasons last year as well as the indoor season in 2003-04, earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second in the 500m at this year??s Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships. She also placed 11th in the 800m at the 2006 ECAC Indoor Championships.
Last year, Zivic received All-Atlantic 10 honors, winning the 500m at the 2005 Indoor Championships to earn First Team honors while in 2004 she took second in the 500m to pick up Second Team honors.
Zivic currently holds the Fordham school indoor record for the 400 meters (56.84) and 500 meters (1:14.63) as well as being a member of the school record-setting indoor 4x800 relay team (3:53.24) as well as the outdoor 4x200 relay team (1:44.40).
Nordquist, a Biological Sciences with a minor in Classical Civilizations who served as a team captain this season, placed second in the 400m hurdles at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships to garner Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors while also scoring in the 100m hurdles, placing eighth. Indoors, she placed fifth in the 55m hurdles at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships and was a member of the 4x400 relay team that placed 22nd at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Nordquist also won the 400m hurdles at the 2006 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships while taking fourth in the 100m hurdles.
Last year, Nordquist earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in the 400m hurdles at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships.
