(May 15, 2006) - Fordham University junior Javier Martinez (South Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) was named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, earning his third Atlantic 10 weekly honor this season. In his lone start of the week, Martinez threw seven shutout inning, while fanning nine batters on Friday in a 6-0 win over Dayton. He scattered three hits, as he picked up his team-leading sixth win of the season. Martinez also topped 80 strikeouts for the season, becoming just the 7th Ram to reach that plateau in a season, while also moving into fourth on Fordham's all-time strikeout list with 197, behind only Pete Harnisch (213), Donny Tracey (212), and Paul Darrigo (199). Martinez is currently 6-5 on the year with a 3.94 ERA, while in conference play, he is now 5-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 55 strikeouts. Martinez and the Fordham Baseball team (23-29, 13-11 Atlantic 10) will next be in action on Tuesday, May 16th, as they host Fairleigh Dickinson University at 7:00 PM.
