FORDHAM??S LAURA KLAIBER NAMED ATLANTIC 10 SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

(Arpil 10, 2006) - Fordham University sophomore infielder Laura Klaiber (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was named Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week it was announced today. This is the first Player of the Week award for Klaiber, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, who was twice named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week last spring. Klaiber, who led the team in hitting last year, hit .529 (9-17) over six games this week, collecting three home runs and eight RBI. She had three multi-hit games and finished with a .619 on-base percentage and 1.118 slugging percentage. Klaiber??s big game was a 3-for-3 game with a home run and three RBI in a 12-3 win over Saint Louis on Friday to complete an Atlantic 10 doubleheader sweep of the Billikens. In the twin bill, Klaiber went a combined 4-for-6 with four RBI. On the year, Klaiber is hitting .315 (35-111) with five doubles, one triple, six home runs and 22 RBI. She moved into a tie for second on Fordham??s all-time home run list with 12 and became just the second Ram to reach 80 career RBIs. The Fordham Softball team is currently 22-16 overall, 6-2 in the Atlantic 10, and will next be in action on Tuesday, April 11th, as they travel to New Rochelle, New York to face Iona College at 3:30 PM. The Rams will then host Marist on Thursday, April 13th before returning to Atlantic 10 play by hosting St. Bonaventure on Saturday, April 15th at 12:00 PM.
