(March 6, 2006) - Fordham University freshman Dominique Ligouri (Hartsdale, NY/The Ursuline School) was named to the Atlantic 10 Women??s Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 6th. This is Ligouri??s first career honor, and the first weekly honor for any women??s tennis player this season. Ligouri posted a pair of #1 singles victories on March 3rd against St. Peter??s and LIU. The two wins extended her match win streak at the #1 spot to seven, and 11-1 overall this season. Ligouri topped St. Peter??s Angela Wiggs, 6-3, 6-0, and then defeated LIU??s Jessica Loose, 6-3, 6-1. She also picked up a pair of 8-3 first doubles wins with partner Ellenoira Featherston. The Fordham Women??s Tennis team will next be in action on Sunday, March 26th, when they host Rhode Island at 11:00 AM. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
