(March 27, 2006) - Fordham University senior
James Sammut (San Bruno, CA/St. Ignatius College HS) earned his first career Atlantic 10 weekly honor, as Sammut was named Atlantic 10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week. He is the second Ram to receive Pitcher of the Week honors this season, joining Javier Martinez, back in February.
Sammut compiled a 2-0 record with a save in three relief appearances this weekend, as Fordham swept a three-game series from UMass. On Friday, he threw two innings of hitless relief, striking out two to record his first career win in an 11-5 victory. He followed that by striking out the side in the ninth for his third save of the season on Saturday in a 2-0 win. Sammut capped the weekend with 1 1/3 innings of no-hit ball in a 4-2 win on Sunday to record his second win in three days.
Sammut and the Fordham Baseball team (9-13, 3-0) will look to extend their current six-game winning streak on Wednesday, March 29th, as they host Stony Brook at Houlihan Park at 3:30 PM. Following that game, the Rams will travel to Cincinnati, OH for a three-game Atlantic 10 series against Xavier from March 31st-April 2nd.
