Jada Jefferson (Newark, NJ/Malcolm X Shabazz) and junior guard
Lisa Carrol (Stockholm, Sweden/Tibble Gymnasium) were both named to the 2005-06 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball All-Conference Second Team, as announced by the conference today. Joining them on the Second Team were Richmond's Saona Chapman, Saint Joseph's Ayahna Cornish, Saint Louis' Tyler McIlwraith, Massachusetts' Kate Mills and Pam Rosanio, Rhode Island's Safi Mojidi and Tanya Rhodes, La Salle's Davineia Payne, and Dayton's Jennifer Strong.
Jefferson and Carrol become just the fifth and sixth Rams to be named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team, joining Suzanne Maguire (Second Team - 1996 & 1997), Malyssa Thorngren (Third Team - 1998), Mobolaji Akiode (Second Team - 2003), and Monica Mack (Third Team - 2005). It is also the first time Fordham has had two players named to the All-Conference team in the same season.
Jefferson had an outstanding regular season, averaging career-highs of 12.4 points and 8.6 rebounds a contest, while having a career-high 53 assists. Her scoring average was second on the team, while she led the team in rebounding, blocked shots with 39, and double-doubles with eight, while having four 20-point games. In the conference, she ranked fourth in the league in rebounding and blocked shots, while being sixth in field goal percentage and 15th in scoring.
Carrol was the Rams' leading scorer this season at 15.4 points per game, good for sixth in the Atlantic 10. She received Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors once this season, while also receiving the MET Writers' Player of the Week award once. She topped the 20-point mark in eight games this season, while leading the team in free throw percentage at .856 (101-118), which ranked second in the Atlantic 10. She also led the team in assists (78) and steals (38).
Jefferson and Carrol, along with the rest of the Fordham Rams, will open the 2006 Atlantic 10 Tournament with a 2:00 PM match-up with the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Friday, March 3rd.
