(February 4, 2006) ?C The final NCAA rankings for Division I Fall Sports have come out, and in the Most Improved category the Fordham men??s soccer team tied for sixth in the country with a six-game improvement from 2004 to 2005. Their six-game improvement was the same as three other schools, including Illinois-Chicago, Lipscomb, and North Carolina.
Fordham finished the 2004 campaign with a 3-12-3 record and turned that into an 8-5-5 mark in 2005.
"The 2005 season is the result of a lot of hard work from the players and the staff. Now that we have set the bar higher for our program, we will be working harder during the spring and summer to be better in 2006," said Head Coach
Jim McElderry.
Fordham??s six-game improvement from a year ago was only surpassed by five other teams, with Providence having the best improvement at nine games. San Diego St. and San Jose St. had seven-game improvements, while Gardener-Webb and Sacred Heart each hadsix and a half game improvements.
This is the third time in recent memory that a Fordham team has been among the NCAA??s Most Improved teams. The Fordham softball team had the seventh best single-season turn-around in NCAA history in 2003, while the Fordham women??s basketball team was tied for 15th in the most-improved rankings for the 2002-03 season.
