Lisa Carrol (Stockholm, Sweden/Tibble Gymnasium) was named the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Women??s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 26th. This is the third time Carrol has been honored by the MBWA, as she was named to their honor roll twice already this season.
Carrol had an outstanding week, helping the Rams clinch the final berth in the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship tournament this coming weekend in Philadelphia. In her two games this week, she averaged 23 points and four rebounds, while shooting .667 from the field and being perfect at the free throw line (13-for-13). On Friday, she scored 21 of her 23 points in the second half to go with three rebounds and three steals, as Fordham beat La Salle in Philadephia for the first time since 1996. Carrol then duplicated the feat on Sunday, as she scored 21 of 23 points in the second half to go with four assists against Saint Louis, giving Fordham the final tournament spot.
She currently leads the team in scoring at 15.4 points per game, good for sixth in the Atlantic 10, while ranking second the league in free throw percentage at .856 (101-118).
Carrol and the Fordham Women??s Basketball team will next be in action on Friday, March 3rd, as they open play at the Atlantic 10 Championship against the host school, Saint Joseph's University at 2:00 PM. The winner of that game will then move on to play Xavier University at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 4th.
