(February 21, 2006) ?C Fordham University sophomore forward Bryant Dunston (Queens, NY/St. John's Prep) was named Second Team All-National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for District 2 it was announced today. Dunston is one of nine Atlantic 10 players to earn NABC All-District honors, joining George Washington??s Pops Mensah-Bonsu (First Team ?C District 4), J.R. Pinnock (Second Team ?C District 4) and Mike Hall (Second Team ?C District 4); Massachusetts?? Rashaun Freeman (First Team ?C District 1); La Salle??s Steven Smith (First Team ?C District 3); Temple??s Mardy Collins (Second Team ?C District 3); Charlotte??s Curtis Withers (Second Team ?C District 5); and Xavier??s Brian Thorton (First Team ?C District 10).
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across the country. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Teams to be announced at the conclusion of the 2005-2006 NCAA men??s basketball season.
Dunston, 2005-06 Preseason First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, is averaging 16.2 ppg, second best on the team and seventh best in the conference, while also averaging a team-high 7.5 rpg in 2005-06, fifth best in the A-10. He also leads team with 63 blocks and is shooting 53.5% (137-256) from the field and 59.3% (16-27) from three-point land. On the year, Dunston has recorded eight double-doubles, the last coming last Saturday with 23 points and ten rebounds in the loss to Charlotte.
Dunston, who has hit for double figures in 19 of the last 21 games, was named to the Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team after averaging 18.7 ppg and 9.0 rpg in the three-game tournament. Has started all 25 games for the Rams at forward in 2005-06 and has started every game since arriving at Fordham (54 games).
The Rams, 12-13 overall, 7-5 in the Atlantic 10, will next be in action on Wednesday, February 22nd as they travel down to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph??s University in an Atlantic 10 match-up beginning at 7:00 p.m.
