FORDHAM BASEBALL SIGNS SIX DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD

(December 11, 2005) - Fordham Head Baseball Coach Nick Restaino announced six student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Fordham University, starting with the 2008 season. The six signees are catcher Ryan David (Meriden, CT/O.H. Platt), catcher/third baseman Shane Fox (Mount Laurel, NJ/Bishop Eustace), outfielder Alex Kenny (Chester, NJ/West Morris Mendham), pitcher Max Krakowiak (Westport, CT/Staples), infielder Joe Russo (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga) and pitcher James Stone (Massapequa, NY/Chaminade). ??We are very excited about the commitments we received this fall,?? said Restaino. ??All 6 student athletes are equally excited, proud to be part of our program and anxious to be part of the Fordham family. Each recruit addresses a need we feel will open up due to graduation and the June MLB player draft. Coach Reyes and Coach Cohen did a great job identifying talented student athletes. All will have a chance to make an immediate impact on the program.?? David is in his senior year at O.H. Platt High School in Meriden, Connecticut, where he is competing in his fourth year with the baseball squad. The 6?? 1?? catcher was an All-Conference selection on football last year at O.H. Platt, while also earning team MVP honors. He will serve as a co-captain of the baseball squad this spring. David, a member of the National Honor Society, is also a member of the football team in high school, earning All-Conference honors as a senior while serving as a team tri-captain. Fox, a senior at Bishop Eustace High School in Pennsauken, New Jersey, is a four-year member of the baseball team, earning First Team All-Conference honors last year as a junior. The 6??1?? catcher/third baseman was also named All-Parochial as a sophomore as well as being named the team??s Most Improved Player. Fox is a member of the National Honor Society, and during summer ball, he served as the starting catcher for the Tri-State Arsenal, one of the top summer baseball programs in South Jersey. Kenny, who is in his senior year at West Morris Mendham High School in Mendham, New Jersey, was an All-Conference and All-Area selection as a junior and senior with the baseball squad. The 6??4?? outfielder, who received the conference Sportsmanship Award as a junior, will serve as a team captain this spring. In addition to playing at West Morris Mendham, Kenny was a starting outfielder for the NJ Twins scout team during the summer and fall. Krakowiak, a senior at Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut, is entering his fourth season with the baseball team. Last year, the 6??3?? right hander, was named All-Area and Honorable Mention All-FCIAC while serving as a team captain. He was also named a 2006 Senior Legion All-Star. Besides baseball, Krakowiak is also a member of the basketball squad at Staples, earning Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2006 while serving as a team captain. Russo, who is in his senior season at Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is a four-year starter with the baseball team. The 6??0?? infielder was a Puma All-American from 2005-07 and a Legion All-Star in 2006. Last spring, Russo was named First Team All-Lancaster-Lebanon League at short stop as well as Honor Mention All-League as a pitcher. He also received All-League honors at short stop as a sophomore (Honorable Mention) and at second base as a freshman (First Team). Academically, Russo was named to the Distinguished Honor Roll all four years at Conestoga Valley. Stone, a senior at Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, is a 6??0??, right hander, who plays summer ball with the Long Island Titans. He has been named All-League at Chaminade as well as serving as a team captain. He also pitched for the LI Titans, one of Long Island??s top summer programs this past summer and fall. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
