(November 6, 2006) ?C Fordham University senior linebacker Marcus Taylor (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for games of November 4th it was announced today. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Taylor in 2006 and the second in his career.
Last Saturday, the Rams fell to Lafayette, 31-24, in a Patriot League game on Jack Coffey Field. In the game, Taylor tied a season-high with 15 tackles, six solo, including three tackles for a loss of 13 yards and one sack. He also forced two fumbles, one of which he returned 43 yards for a touchdown to cut the Fordham deficit to 21-17 early in the second half. His fumble return for a score was the first for a Fordham player since NaQuinton Gainous did so against Rhode Island in 2004.
On the year, Taylor leads the team with 97 total tackles, 48 solo, including ten for a loss and four sacks while also intercepting two passes and breaking up four. He leads the Patriot League in forced fumbles with four and is second in the league and 14th in the NCAA I-AA in total tackles.
The Rams (2-7, 0-4 Patriot League) will next travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to face the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in Goodman Stadium this Saturday, November 11th at 12:30 p.m.
