FORDHAM??S CAITLIN NAPOLI & JUSTIN COOMBS NAMED ATLANTIC 10 SWIMMING & DIVING ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

(November 20, 2006) - Fordham freshmen Caitlin Napoli (Hauppuage, NY/St. Anthony??s) and Justin Coombs (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) were selected as Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Rookies of the Week, for the week ending November 20th. This is Napoli??s second weekly award of the season, and the first for Justin Coombs, as his twin brother, Ryan, has won the award twice this season. Napoli broke two school records during Fordham??s dual meet with Duquesne and Rhode Island Saturday. She started the day by breaking the Fordham 200 freestyle record held by Katie Greiner. Napoli swam 1:52.97 to tie for first overall, bettering Greiner??s mark of 1:53.84. Then, she broke her own 200 butterfly record, winning the event in 2:04.60, besting her own mark of 2:06.05. In addition to her two records, she joined with Kristin Colton, Nicole Marshall, and Tressa Dunn to win the 400 medley relay in a season-best time of 3:56.56. Coombs was also a dual event winner in the dual meet, earning first place finishes in the 100 freestyle (47.54) and the 200 freestyle (1:44.70). His time in the 100 freestyle was the best by a Fordham swimmer this season. The Fordham Swimming & Diving teams will next be in action on November 20th, as they will be at Columbia, beginning at 6:00 PM. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
