Caitlin Napoli (Hauppuage, NY/St. Anthony??s) and
Ryan Coombs (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) were selected as Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Rookies of the Week, for the week ending October 29th. This is first career Atlantic 10 weekly award for both swimmers.
Napoli shattered the program record in the 200-yard butterfly on October 21st at the Sonny Werblin Invitational, where she took second overall in 2:06.98. The 200 butterfly record was the longest standing women??s record at Fordham, set by Gabriel Lorenc in 1992 (2:07.32). She also took third in the 200 freestyle at Rutgers (1:55.38). Just five days later, she broke the 200 butterfly record again against Marist, winning the event in 2:06.05, while also taking the 200 free in 2:06.98, and was a part of the winning 400 medley relay (3:59.36). She capped the week by winning the 500 free at St. Peter??s in 5:10.07, and was a part of the 200 winning medley relay (1:54.14).
Coombs started his Fordham career by winning the 1650 freestyle at the Sonny Werblin Invitational in 16:29.88, while placing third in the 200 free (1:44.94) and fifth in the 100 fly (49.05). He then won two events against Marist in the 100 free (9:48.47) and the 200 fly (1:57.81), while being a part of the winning 400 free relay (3:16.81). He finished the week by taking the 200 IM at St. Peter??s in 2:05.24, and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:41.78).
The Fordham Swimming & Diving teams will be in action on November 8th, as they will be at Stony Brook, beginning at 6:00 PM.
