(October 23, 2006) ?C Fordham University junior punter Benjamin Dato (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) was named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week for games of October 21st it was announced today. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Dato.
In the Colgate game last week, Dato punted eight times for 396 yards (49.5 yards/punt), with a long punt of 59 yards, as the Rams fell to the Raiders, 46-3.
On the year, Dato is averaging 44.23 yards/punt, tops in the Patriot League and sixth in the NCAA I-AA. Of his 40 punts on the year, 14 have gone over 50 yards, with five touchbacks and two downed inside the opponent??s 20. Over the past three games, he is averaging over 47.0 yards/punt and had a career best kick of 66 yards against Columbia on September 16th.
The Rams (2-5, 0-2 Patriot League) will next travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to take on the Bucknell University Bison in a Patriot League game on Saturday, October 28th at 1:00 p.m.
