Isiejah Allen (Bethesda, MD/Gonzaga) was named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week for games of September 30th it was announced today. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Allen.
Last Saturday, the Rams dropped a Patriot League game to Holy Cross, 28-21, in Worcester in the annual battle for the Ram-Crusader Trophy.
In the game, Allen returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score, tying the Fordham school record for longest kickoff return set by Robert Davis against Brown in 1996. On the play, which occurred after Holy Cross had scored to take a 28-13 lead midway through the fourth quarter, Allen fielded the ball in the endzone and broke multiple tackles as he raced down the right sideline for the score. It was the first kickoff returned for a touchdown by a Ram since Raymond Loney did it against Brown in 2004.
Allen also played well on defense, recording four tackles, two solo, along with an interception and a fumble recovery. The interception, which came in the third quarter, led to a Fordham touchdown while the fumble recovery came on the first play of Holy Cross?? ensuing possession following the kickoff return.
On the year, Allen has returned three kickoffs for 126 yards (42.0 yards/return) and six punts for 53 yards (8.8 yards/return) while on defense he has six total tackles, four solo, with an interception and a fumble recovery.
The Rams (1-3, 0-1 Patriot League) will next host the Duquesne University Dukes on Jack Coffey Field this Saturday, October 7th at 1:00 p.m. The game will be the first home game for the Rams since they opened the season on Jack Coffey Field on September 2nd.
