ASHLEY UKLEJA NAMED ATLANTIC 10 WOMEN??S SWIMMING & DIVING CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

(January 30, 2006) - Fordham freshman Ashley Ukleja (West Haven, CT/Sacred Heart) was selected as Atlantic 10 Women??s Swimming & Diving Co-Rookie of the Week, for the week ending January 29th. This is Ukleja??s second straight Atlantic 10 weekly award. After returning from injury last week, Ukleja set the Fordham record in the 1000 freestyle event against Massachsuetts on Saturday, swimming 10:20.59, which eclipsed the previous mark of 10:21.59, set by teammate Ayse Caglar in 2003. She also won the 500 freestyle in a season-best time of 5:06.40. The Fordham Swimming & Diving teams will be in action on Wednesday, February 1st, as they host their final home meet against St. Francis (NY) College at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center, beginning at 6:00 PM. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
