(September 5, 2005) ?C Former Fordham University defensive lineman Aki Jones (Jamaica, NY/Christ the King) was signed to the Washington Redskins practice roster it was announced yesterday.
Jones, a 2005 Fordham graduate, was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection last fall. The 6-5, 280-pound defensive lineman, was an undrafted rookie who signed a free agent contract with the Redskins in May and, according to the release on the Washington Redskins website, ??impressed Redskins coaches with his high motor??.
Jones registered 32 total tackles, 14 solo, in ten games in 2004. Included in his 32 tackles were six for a loss of 30 yards and a team-high five sacks. He also broke up a pass last season.
A 2003 First Team All-Patriot League selection, Jones closed out his Fordham career with 101 total tackles, 55 solo, including 25 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks. He also broke up five passes and had one interception in 39 career games.
A graduate of Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York, Jones arrived at Fordham after spending a year at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts. He was an All-League, All-City and All-Queens pick at Christ the King while also being member of the basketball and track and field teams at Deerfield.
