FORDHAM'S SAM ACHEAMPONG NAMED ATLANTIC 10 MEN'S SOCCER CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

(September 12, 2005) - Fordham University freshman Sam Acheampong (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) was named Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 11th. This is Acheampong's first Atlantic 10 honor, and is the first Fordham player to win Rookie of the Week honors since Anthony Akande did so last September. He shares the honor with Richmond's Kern Gardiner. Acheampong, who has started all four games for Fordham this season, notched his first collegiate goal on Sunday at the SoccerPost.com Classic versus New Jersey Tech. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, the second 1-1 tie for the Rams this past weekend, as they tied Monmouth on Saturday. The Fordham Men's Soccer team is currently 1-1-2 on the year after splitting their first two games of the season. The team was regionally ranked in the New York Region by the NSCAA last week, tying for tenth with Niagara University, for the first time since 1998. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City??s Jesuit University. With 22 men??s and women??s varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women??s rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
