(August 28, 2005) ?C Fordham University announced the resignation of Baseball Pitching Coach Bob Caputo today after three seasons with the Rams. Due to time constraints with other ventures, Caputo was no longer able serve as the pitching coach.
??I would like to thank Bob Caputo for all he has done for the baseball program,?? said Head Baseball Coach Nick Restaino, ??Bob did a tremendous job handling the pitching staff the past three seasons, and it showed on the field last year.??
Fordham had a resurgent year in 2005, compiling a 34-19 overall record, while amassing 17 conference wins, the most for the program, since joining the Atlantic 10, and made their second consecutive appearance at the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
From the pitching side, Caputo helped the Rams?? pitching staff return to respectability over the past three seasons. When he arrived after the 2002 season, the pitching staff had an ERA of close to seven and allowed a .318 batting average. As Caputo leaves after 2005, Fordham posted a respectable 4.62 team ERA, while allowing opponents a .273 batting average.
The Fordham pitching staff also saw individual success as Rob Semerano was drafted following the 2004 season by the Oakland Athletics, Shingo Mitsumori was signed to a professional contract with the Samurai Bears after the 2005 season, and Cory Riordan was selected to the 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team.
??Unfortunately, Bob needed to go due to time commitments, however, his efforts have been greatly appreciated,?? said Restaino.
This concludes Caputo??s second run as a Ram, as he played baseball at Fordham from 1966 to 1969, serving as team captain in 1969.
