FORDHAM FOOTBALL OPENS 2005 FOOTBALL CAMP

(August 10, 2005) ?C Fordham University head football coach Ed Foley opened his second summer camp today by welcoming the Rams to their first day of practice on Murphy Field. The student-athletes reported to Fordham on Monday, took care of administrative details yesterday (physicals, equipment issue, etc.) and were on the field today for the first time. Per NCAA regulations, today was the first of five acclimatization days during which the Rams will have just one practice per day with the team being split into junior varsity and varsity with the two squads holding separate practices. Fordham will have its first practice in pads on Sunday August 14th beginning at 2:50 p.m. The Rams will then have their first two-a-day practice this Monday, August 15th with a morning session at 7:50 a.m. and an afternoon session at 2:50 p.m. Fordham will alternate single practices with two-a-days through Sunday, August 28th. Unlike last year, the Rams, who were 5-6 in 2004, return most of their offense, including record-setting quarterback Derric Daniels. Last year, Daniels completed 146 of 304 passes for 1,876 yards and 23 touchdowns. The completions, passing yards and touchdowns were all Fordham records for a first-year player (Daniels missed all of the 2003 season with a thumb injury) while 23 touchdown passes was the second best single season total in school history. The story for the 2005 Rams will be replacing six starters on the defensive side of the ball, including consensus All-American defensive back Tad Kornegay and two-time All-Patriot League selection at linebacker NaQuinton Gainous. But Foley believes he has the right mix of experience veterans and talented newcomers to accomplish the task and propel the Rams back towards the top of the Patriot League standings. Fordham will open its 2005 season on Saturday, September 3rd when they travel to Kingston, RI to face the University of Rhode Island Rams in Meade Stadium at noon.
