(June 15, 2005) - Fordham University Head Women??s Basketball Coach Jim Lewis announced on Wednesday that center Mattie Jones (Wyandanch, NY/Wyandanch Memorial) has signed with the Rams for the 2005-06 season. She joins fellow spring signees, point guard Lisa Carrol (Stockholm, Sweden/Dodge City CC), as well as guard Daniela Roark (Los Altos, CA/Pinewood) and guard Annie Zopf (Pittsburgh, PA/Pine-Richland) who all signed with Fordham during the early signing period in November.
Jones, a 6-3 center from Wyandanch Memorial High School, was a four-year starter, helping the team to a 71-15 record in her career, scoring 1,343 points and recording over 1,000 rebounds. A four-time All-League selection, she was selected to the Suffolk County and New York State Class B All-Star teams three times each, while being named to the Newsday All-Long Island team twice. This past season, she averaged 19.9 points and 13.5 rebounds per contest, and for the second time was the recipient of the John Canada Memorial Award for the school's top female basketball player and the school's Most Dominant Female Athlete Award.
