(May 17, 2005) ?C Fordham University head football coach Ed Foley named Josh Carter and Kevin Baumann assistant coaches it was announced today. Carter will assist with the Rams?? defensive backs while Baumann will serve as an assistant offensive line coach.
Carter comes to Fordham after spending last year at fellow Patriot League school Lafayette College where he served as an offensive assistant for the Leopards. He was responsible for coaching the wide receivers at Lafayette as well as assisting the offensive coordinator in the development and implementation of game plans. He also handled on and off campus recruiting in New York State.
Prior to Lafayette, Carter served as an intern at Muhlenberg College from August of 2003 until May of 2004 where he coached the defensive backs and assisted the head coach and defensive coordinator in the installation of a new ??3-4?? scheme and ??zone blitz?? package. He also recruited both on and off campus in various regions of the Northeast and assisted in game plan development and implementation.
A 2002 graduate of Muhlenberg College with a degree in Business Administration, Cater was a four-year letter winner with the Mules football team. He served as a 2001 team captain as was a three-time All-American selection as a return specialist. The 2000 Centennial Conference Player of the Year was named First Team All-Conference in 1999, 2000 and 2001 as a kick returner and as a wide receiver in 2000 and 2001 while receiving Second Team honors as a receiver in 1999. He set 24 school records in his time at Muhlenberg and set the single season NCAA Division III record for kickoff return yardage in a season with 981 in 1999.
Carter also played baseball at Muhlenberg, being named 2002 Centennial Conference Player of the Year. A four-year letter winner, he served as team captain as a senior and was named First Team All-Conference as a pitcher and outfielder in 2002, becoming the first player in conference history to earn First Team All-Conference honors at two positions in the same year. He is the school??s all-time leader in hits, runs, stolen bases and doubles and threw the only ho-hitter in Muhlenberg history.
Baumann arrives at Rose Hill after serving as a graduate assistant football coach at Widener University since January of 2004. At Widener, he was responsible for assisting the offensive line coach and recruiting various areas in Pennsylvania.
Baumann received a degree in Sports Management with a minor in Business Management and Marketing from Defiance College in 2003. He was a four-year letterman with the Yellow Jackets, earning Third Team Don Hansen??s Football Gazette All-North Region honors in 2002 as well as First Team All-Heartland Conference honors.
A 2002 team captain, Baumann was named First Team All-Heartland Conference on the offensive line in both 2001 and 2002 while also earning Third Team Don Hansen??s Football Gazette All-North Region honors in 2001. He helped Defiance to the 2001 Heartland Conference championship in 2001, earning the Yellow Jackets a trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
In 2000, Baumann was a Second Team All-Heartland selection on the offensive line.
Academically, Baumann was named Second Team Academic All-District IV in 2000 and Third Team Academic All-District IV as a senior in 2003.
Fordham will open its 2005 season on Saturday, September 3rd as they Rams travel to Kingston, Rhode Island to face the University of Rhode Island at noon.
