FORDHAM SOFTBALL ANNOUNCES SPRING SIGNEES FOR 2006

(June 20, 2005) - Fordham Softball Coach Bridget Orchard announced the signing of six players for the 2006 season today, as Juanita Gonzalez (Centereach, NY/Stony Brook Academy), Mary Beth Puccio (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore), Megan Waldron (Windsor, NY/Windsor), Stephanie Mott (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap), and Sarah Campbell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) will suit up for the Rams. The group joins the Rams' lone fall signee infielder Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) in this year's recruiting class. Gonzalez, a pitcher from Stony Brook Academy, is the all-time strikeout leader in Nassau and Suffolk county, recording more than 1,000 in her career, breaking the record of 878 set by current Fordham pitching coach Kim Ryan from 1996-99. Registering an ERA of under one as a senior, she has received All-County and All-Conference honors in her time at Stony Brook Academy, helping the team to the Sufflok Class C title game in 2004. She currently plays summer ball for the Long Island Chargers. Puccio, a first baseman from Bay Shore High School, an NFCA Regional All-American in 2003 and 2004 was the 2004 Gatorade New York State Player of the Year. As a senior, she helped Bay Shore to the Class AA Long Island Championship, batting .469 on the year to go with seven doubles, seven home runs, 46 RBI, 33 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. A three-time All-Long Island selection, she finished her career with 23 home runs, 135 RBI, and 127 runs scored. She currently plays summer ball for the Long Island Riptide. Waldron, an outfielder/pitcher from Windsor High School, was an intrical part of the 2004 Class B State Championship team, garnering Third Team All-New York State honors. An All-STAC selection from 2002-04, she was named the MVP of the 2005 Canastota Invitational Tournament. She currently plays summer ball for the New York Ponies. Mott, a third baseman from South Kitsap High School, hit .525 her senior season, garnering League MVP honors and earned a place on the All-Area team. She helped South Kitsap to their league championship and was selected to the All-County All-Star game. She currently plays summer ball for the Washington Sidewinders Gold. Campbell, a pitcher/first baseman from Brighton High School, was a four-year starter as a pitcher, garnering the 2005 Monroe County Division III Player of the Year Award. She recorded a 1.17 ERA as a senior, holding opponents to a .117 batting average. At the plate, she batted .647 on the year, leading the team with 18 RBI, 18 stolen bases, and a 1.021 slugging percentage. A three-time All-Monroe County First Team selection, she currently plays summer ball for the Lady Mustangs out of Amherst, NY. The Fordham Softball team is coming off their third straight 30-win campaign and their first ever Atlantic 10 regular season title. The team went 38-16 overall, 15-1 in the Atlantic 10, and had individuals win the Atlantic 10 Player, Pitcher, Coach, and Rookie of the Year awards this past season. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
