INFIELDER MEGAN HANSEN TO TRANSFER TO FORDHAM

(July 28, 2005) ?C Fordham Head Coach Bridget Orchard announced that infielder Megan Hansen (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol) will transfer to Fordham for the upcoming 2006 season from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Hansen joins Juanita Gonzalez (Centereach, NY/Stony Brook Academy), Mary Beth Puccio (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore), Megan Waldron (Windsor, NY/Windsor), Stephanie Mott (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap), Sarah Campbell (Rochester, NY/Brighton), Kate Evers (Huntington, NY/Huntington) and Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) in this year's recruiting class. Hansen was a two-year starter for the Islanders, starting all 113 games over the past two seasons, seeing action at shortstop as a freshman and first base as a sophomore. In her two seasons, she was already in the top four in career home runs and career RBI at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. As a freshman, she was a First Team All-Big South selection after hitting eight home runs, 11 doubles, and 34 RBI. This past season, she helped the Islanders to the NCAA Regionals, hitting .264 with 32 runs scored, 11 doubles, nine home runs, and 36 RBI. She was also selected to the Big South All-Academic Team as a sophomore. The Fordham Softball team is coming off their third straight 30-win campaign and their first ever Atlantic 10 regular season title. The team went 38-16 overall, 15-1 in the Atlantic 10, and had individuals win the Atlantic 10 Player, Pitcher, Coach, and Rookie of the Year awards this past season.
