(July 20, 2005) ?C Fordham Baseball??s Cory Riordan (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) and John Mollicone (Cranston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) have been selected to the 2005 New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game, representing the Danbury Westerners of the South Division. The NECBL All-Star Game is set for Sunday, July 24th at 3:30 PM at historic Cardines Field in Newport, RI.
Riordan and Mollicone join fellow teammate Danny Leach (Yonkers, NY/Iona Prep) as a Summer Ball All-Star, as he was selected to the ACBL All-Star Game eight days ago.
Riordan, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and a Freshman All-American selection, has picked up right where he left off at the end of last season. So far for Danbury, Riordan has posted a 2-2 mark in six starts with a 1.49 ERA, good for third on the team. He also has 37 strikeouts in 36.1 innings and a .220 opponent batting average.
Mollicone, Fordham??s starting catcher, ranks second on Danbury in hitting with a .288 batting average to go with a pair of home runs and six RBI in 19 games. He has also recorded a pickoff and thrown out five base runners this summer.
