(June 8, 2005) - Fordham University freshman pitcher Cory Riordan (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) was named the 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, selected by Collegiate Baseball, it was announced today. He is the first Fordham player to earn Freshman All-American honors since Tim Short was named to the team in 2002. Riordan, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Baseball Rookie of the Year as well as Second Team All-Conference, became the second Ram to earn A-10 Rookie of the Year honors, joining Tom Stein who received the award in 1996. Riordan closed out his rookie campaign with a 10-4 record and a 3.61 ERA with four complete games. He carried a 25-inning scoreless streak into the Atlantic 10 tournament, the second longest scoreless streak in Fordham history, and had the streak snapped at 26 innings. Riordan was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week three times in 2005 as well as being named A-10 Pitcher of the Week once. The Rams finished the season with a 34-21 record, 17-7 in the Atlantic 10. The 17 conference wins was the most for a Fordham team since they moved to the Atlantic 10 in 1996 while the 34 overall wins were the most for the Rams since the 1997 squad finished 34-19.
