(May 9, 2005) - Fordham University freshman Cory Riordan (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) earned Atlantic 10 Baseball Co-Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending May 8th. This is the second straight week Riordan has been honored as he was co-rookie of the week last Monday.
In his lone start of the week, Riordan threw his second consecutive shutout, as he allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out a season-high 10 batters in Fordham's nine-inning 1-0 win over Rhode Island on Sunday. The win was the ninth of the season for Riordan, as he became the first Ram to win nine games since 1992, and the first to throw two complete game shutouts since 1991.
On the year, Riordan is 9-3 with a 3.79 earned run average and 51 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.
The Fordham Baseball team, ranked 11th in the Northeast Region, is currently 30-18 overall, 14-7 in the Atlantic 10. Fordham did clinch second place in the Atlantic 10's East Division with their win on Sunday, giving the Rams their second straight Atlantic 10 Tournament, and fourth overall. The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, May 14th as they host Saint Joseph's University for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader, beginning at noon. The games will be played at KeySpan Park in Brooklyn, NY.
