FORDHAM'S CORY RIORDAN NAMED ATLANTIC 10 BASEBALL CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

(May 2, 2005) - Fordham University freshman Cory Riordan (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) earned Atlantic 10 Baseball Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending May 1st. This is his first such honor this season, and he shares this week's honor with Josh Goldberg of George Washington. In his lone start of the week, Riordan threw a complete game three-hit shutout against Temple, striking out four in the game. It was his first career shutout, as he becomes the first Fordham freshman to win eight games in a season since Paul LoGuidice won nine games in 1988. Fordham ended up sweeping the series against the Owls, and have now won five straight Atlantic 10 series. On the year, Riordan is 8-3 with a 4.31 earned run average and 41 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. The Fordham Baseball team, ranked 10th in the Northeast Region, is currently 29-15 overall, 13-5 in the Atlantic 10, good for second place in the East Division. The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, May 4th, as they play at Manhattan College, beginning at 3:00 PM.
