(May 16, 2005) - Fordham University senior Tim Short (Kenmore, NY/Canisius) was named First Team 2005 ESPN The Magazine Baseball Academic All-District 1 as selected by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA). The team is selected by a vote of the district??s Sports Information Directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve and have a 3.2 gpa for his/her entire career.
Short, who will now go on the national ballot for Academic All-America? consideration, carries a 3.46 gpa in Business Administration. In 48 games this spring, he is hitting .312 (49-157) with six doubles, one triple and 18 RBI along with nine stolen bases. He is second on the team in batting average and stolen bases, third in hits and fourth with 33 runs scored.
This past Sunday, Short appeared in his 192nd game to tie Kurt Thomas?? school record set from 2001-04. Earlier this year, he also became the 16th Ram to register at least 100 career runs scored and 175 career hits. Short currently sits in 13th place on Fordham??s career hits list with 179.
Academically, Short has also earned Fordham??s Daniel E. Quilty Scholar-Athlete Award as well as the Kieran Award for his academic and athletic achievements.
The Rams (33-18, 17-7 Atlantic 10) close out their regular season on Wednesday by traveling to Rutgers University for a 1:00 p.m. contest. Fordham has clinched second place in the Atlantic 10 East Division as well as the number three seed at the Atlantic 10 Tournament which is slated for May 25-28 at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio. The 17 conference wins is the most for a Fordham team since they moved to the Atlantic 10 in 1996 while the 33 overall wins are the most for the Rams since the 1997 squad finished 34-19.
