(May 16, 2005) - Fordham University freshman Cory Riordan (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) earned Atlantic 10 Baseball Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending May 15th. This is the third straight week Riordan has been honored as rookie of the week, while also garnering co-pitcher of the week honors last week.
In his lone start of the week, Riordan threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out eight in Fordham's 6-0 win over Saint Joseph's on Sunday. The win was the tenth of the season for Riordan, becoming the first Ram pitcher to win at least ten games since Paul Darrigo in 1988. He also extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 23 innings.
On the year, Riordan is 10-3 with a 3.46 earned run average and 59 strikeouts in 80.2 innings.
The Fordham Baseball team, ranked 10th in the Northeast Region, is currently 33-18 overall, 17-7 in the Atlantic 10. The 17 conference wins is the most by Fordham since joining the Atlantic 10 in 1995-96, and the Rams will be the number three seed at next week's Atlantic 10 Championship. The Fordham Baseball team will next be in action on Wednesday, May 18th as they travel to play Rutgers University at 1:00 PM in Piscataway, NJ.
