KERSTIN GREENE AND GALEN FORD NAMED ATLANTIC 10 TRACK & FIELD ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

(April 11, 2005) - Fordham freshmen Kerstin Greene (Frankfurt, Germany/Carl Von Weinberg) and Galen Ford (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) were selected as Atlantic 10 Women??s and Men??s Outdoor Track & Field Rookies of the Week, for the week ending April 10th. This is Greene??s first outdoor Atlantic 10 weekly rookie award, as she earned the honor four times during the indoor season, while it is the first career award for Ford. Greene captures her fifth rookie award of the year, after winning the long jump event at the Rider Invitational with a mark of 17?? 7 3/4??, as the Fordham women placed second out of four teams. She also finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.40 seconds, was also being a part of the 4x400 relay team that took first in a time of 3:57.77. Ford grabs his first Atlantic 10 honor after winning the high jump event at the Rider Invitational, clearing 6??6??, helping the Rams to a second place finish out of four teams. He also placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 20?? 1 3/4??. The Fordham Track and Field team will next be in action from April 15-16th, as they compete at the 2005 Metropolitan Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Day one of the competition is set to be held at Rutgers University, while day two will be at St. John??s University. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
