(March 28, 2005) ?C Fordham University senior pitcher Carol Fischer (Berthoud, CO/Berthoud) was named Atlantic 10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 27th. This is the first Pitcher of the Week honor for Fischer this spring and the third in her Fordham career. She also garnered ECAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Fischer did not allow a run in 10 1/3 innings of work on the week, making three appearances, picking up a win and a save. She struck out five batters on the week to bring her career total to a school record 245, surpassing the former record of 242 set by Melissa Curley from 1994-97. She also picked up the win in Fordham??s 1-0 victory over La Salle, her seventh career shut out, tying Jennifer Satriale??s career record set from 1990-94.
Fischer followed the La Salle shutout with two and a third innings of no-hit relief in a win over Saint Joseph??s, picking up her first save of the year.
Earlier this year, Fischer broke the Fordham career record for innings pitched. She currently has pitched 408.1 innings, surpassing Jaime Giguere??s career mark of 382.0 innings set from 2000-04. Last year, she became the school??s all-time wins leader, currently amassing 35 career victories, as well as the all-time games started leader with 61 to date.
On the year, Fischer sports a 2-1 record with one save and a 2.20 ERA. In 28.2 innings she has fanned 18 hitters and opponents are hitting just .202 against her.
The Rams, who opened their Atlantic 10 schedule with doubleheader sweeps of La Salle and Saint Joseph??s, are 12-10 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Atlantic 10. They will next be in action on Wednesday, March 30th as they play a doubleheader at Marist College at 2:00 p.m.
