(March 21, 2005) ?C Fordham University swept the weekly Atlantic 10 Softball Award with freshman Allison Twarowski (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) being named Player and Rookie of the Week and sophomore pitcher Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) earning Pitcher of the Week honors. This is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Twarowski, who also picked up her first Player of the Week honor. Kinney, the 2004 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, earns her second Pitcher of the Week award this year.
Twarowski, a third baseman, was named Co-MVP of the Bethune Cookman Spring Break Classic, hitting .526 (10-19) in the tournament with a home run, seven RBI, and three multi-hit games. She started the tournament with a pair of hits and an RBI against Elon (3/18), and followed with a 4-for-4 game against UTEP (3/18), hitting her first career home run to go with three RBI. Twarowski then went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI against Buffalo (3/19) and ended the tournament with two runs scored and two RBI against UConn (3/20).
On the year, she is the Rams?? top hitter, hitting .422 (19-45) with three doubles, a home run, and 11 RBI.
Kinney went 4-1 on the week, picking up complete game victories over Marist (3/15), Buffalo (3/19), and UConn (3/20), while getting the win in relief over UTEP (3/18). She tied her career-high with 11 strikeouts against Marist in only five innings of work and picked up her third shutout of the season against Buffalo, allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Kinney also had nine strikeouts in six innings of work in Fordham??s win over UConn, which moved her into second place on Fordham??s career wins list with 23
Kinney currently leads the Rams with a 7-4 record, a 1.82 ERA, and 66 strikeouts.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, March 23rd as they play a doubleheader at Stetson University in Deland, Florida at 6:00 p.m.
